Friendly Port Bornholm
Friendly Port Bornholm is part of the Nexø Seaport initiative. It is based in the port of Nexø and created by sailors for sailors, with a strong focus on traditional ships, seamanship, and cooperation between harbour, crews, and local partners.
Traditional Ships
For the purpose of this programme, a “traditional ship” is a traditionally rigged vessel with classic hull lines and character,
maintained in a way that preserves historical seamanship and maritime culture. This includes sail training ships, classic wooden
vessels, and heritage craft operated in a non-industrial, educational, or cultural context.
How It Works
- Advance notice: expected dates of arrival must be reported at least 7 days in advance
- Open deck hours: the ship commits to publishing and keeping specific “open deck” hours for visitors while alongside in Nexø.
Benefits for Participating Vessels
In recognition of their contribution to the harbour community and public access to maritime heritage, participating traditional ships receive:
- Every second day of the stay free of charge (harbour dues waived for every other day while moored under the Friendly Port scheme).
Our goal is to make Nexø a natural meeting point for traditional ships, their crews, and visitors — a place where maritime heritage
remains alive, visible, and accessible to the public.
